NEW! ART WALK

The second Friday of the month will feature a fun filled Art Walk from 6 to 8pm “At the Corner of Art and Main” with lots of food and music. The monthly event  is sponsored by Historic Downtown Mooresville and MAG. This month the date falls on September 12th. The Depot Fine Arts Gallery is featuring a reception for the exhibiting artists Edna Barker, Pat McGuire and Ginny Boyd. Original art is displayed and available for purchase at the Depot be sure to browse our new MAGical Gift Shop for one-of-a-kind gifts. Visit participating downtown businesses such as ArtWorks on Main, 202 North Main Wine Shop, “Cotton" Ketchie's Landmark Galleries, Four Corners Gallery and Framing, Ye Olde Mantel, Soirée, and The Prickly Pear, along with many others.  There is no charge for this event and everyone is most welcome.


CHERI SIMMONS Cheri is thrilled to announce that she has been accepted into her first juried show.  The Cabarrus Art Guild Show has accepted all three of Cheri's entries. The judging for the Cabarrus Art Guild Show was held and of the 89 entries, the judge chose 44 for the show. The reception will be held Sunday, September 21, 2-5pm.

MARY SETZER

MARY has an exhibit at  Margaret Wallace House, Mitchell Community College September 4-29. Reception is Friday Sept. 12, from 5 - 9pm coinciding with Statesville’s Art Crawl. Gallery hours are Monday - Friday 10am—3pm.

THERESA LEATHERWOOD

Theresa is having a pottery show/sale with a potter friend on September 13 in Waxhaw, N.C. (about 20 miles south of Charlotte) and would like to invite members of MAG to come and enjoy the day with her.  She has been working quite hard for several months on new creations and designs.  The show will be held at the Old Collins Farm, 3501 Collins Road, Waxhaw, N.C., 28173 from 8 am to 5 pm.  At the farm, you and your family can wander, sit, relax, swing, stroll, visit, rejuvenate your spirits, and experience the many beautiful pottery creations.

From I-485, proceed south for about ten miles on Highway 16 to the heart of Waxhaw; in Waxhaw turn left on Highway 75 for about 1 1/2 miles; turn left on Collins Road for 1/10 of a mile to Collins Farm on the right. 


BLUES & BURRITOS Mark September 19th on your calendar for the Homesley, Goodman & Wingo Annual Blues & Burritos event. MAG has again been chosen to be one of the recipients of their charitable contribution.

WALMART GRANT

Wal-Mart approved the grant paperwork submitted by Cheri Simmons for the Blue Moon Ball. They have a check for MAG in the amount $1500. We have been invited to attend their Grand Opening/Remodeling Ceremony on Wednesday September 3 at 7:30 am. WalMart will officially present the check to MAG. Wayne McGuire, MAG President, will speak about MAG, and how the grant money will be spent, and of course how much MAG  appreciates Wal-Mart’s support. Cheri Simmons, the grant writer, will also be in attendance.


CALL FOR ARTISTS MAG 26th ANNUAL JUDGED FALL SHOW
The Fall Show will be held from October 4th—October 27th, 2008.
The Judge will be David Edgar, Director, MA in Arts Administration Program, Associate Professor of Art, University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Intake is Sept. 25—28 between 1 and 4 pm at the Depot Fine Arts Gallery. Entries will not be accepted after 4pm on Sunday Sept. 28th.
Opening Reception for exhibiting artists and award ceremony will be Friday, October 10th from 6—8pm. Artists and their family and friends as well as the general public is invited to attend.

Art for the Masses
Original local fine art for $250 or less. Art for the Masses is a one day event for local artists to sell their fine art directly to the public. No gallery, no middleman, no wine, no cheese, just hardcore capitalism!!!
In order to encourage buyers all the artwork will be priced $250 or less, with all proceeds going to you, the artists (there is a $50 fee). The only thing you need to do is make artwork, show up, and sell it.

CALL FOR ARTISTS

The N.C. Research Campus will hold an art show Oct. 25 so campus founder David Murdock and other collectors can buy artwork for the campus. Organizers are inviting North Carolina artists age 18 and older to apply for entry to the show. The deadline is Sept. 1. The juried invitational also will pay $2,750 in prizes. Murdock, the billionaire owner of Dole Food Co. and Castle & Cooke, will choose artwork to display in the Core Laboratory Building.

He will invite representatives from each of the eight partner universities on the Research Campus to select art for their buildings. Murdock is developing the $1.5 billion biotechnology hub on the ruins of an old textile mill he once owned in downtown Kannapolis. The art show will take place inside campus buildings and on the streets of the campus. Art purchased will create a permanent collection for the campus. Murdock is especially interested in artwork by up-and-coming North Carolina artists, organizers said.

Tom Stanley, chairman of the fine arts department at Winthrop University, will serve as juror.

The entry fee is $35 per artist. Entries must be received by the Cabarrus Arts Council by 5 p.m. Sept. 1.

American Watercolor Society traveling show May 22—June 27, 2010 will come to the Depot Fine Arts Gallery after it leaves New York City. This is one of the biggest watercolor events in the country.
