CALL FOR ARTISTS |
The N.C.
Research Campus will hold an art show Oct. 25 so
campus founder David Murdock and other
collectors can buy artwork for the campus.
Organizers are inviting North Carolina artists
age 18 and older to apply for entry to the show.
The deadline is Sept. 1. The juried invitational
also will pay $2,750 in prizes. Murdock, the
billionaire owner of Dole Food Co. and Castle &
Cooke, will choose artwork to display in the
Core Laboratory Building.
He will
invite representatives from each of the eight
partner universities on the Research Campus to
select art for their buildings. Murdock is
developing the $1.5 billion biotechnology hub on
the ruins of an old textile mill he once owned
in downtown Kannapolis. The art show will take
place inside campus buildings and on the streets
of the campus. Art purchased will create a
permanent collection for the campus. Murdock is
especially interested in artwork by
up-and-coming North Carolina artists, organizers
said.
Tom
Stanley, chairman of the fine arts department at
Winthrop University, will serve as juror.
The entry
fee is $35 per artist. Entries must be received
